An accomplished human resources professional has been named the new executive vice president of USAA.
Chief Human Resources Officer Tamla Oates-Forney has joined the organization (CHRO). In addition to leading teams in talent development, talent acquisition, pay and benefits, culture, and employee services, she will serve on USAA's executive council and report to CEO Wayne Peacock.
Tamla is a purpose-driven, people-first leader with extensive and varied HR expertise, according to President and CEO Wayne Peacock. “Tamla has a proven track record of guiding firms through transformational times. Her leadership and proficiency in creating teams and individuals capable of producing good business results are a fantastic fit as we define and carry out a strategy for our second century. Tamla joined USAA after serving as senior vice president and chief people officer at Waste Management, Inc. for almost four years (WM). She spent her 20 years before joining WM working at General Electric, where she rose through the executive and leadership positions. She received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she also completed her undergraduate studies.
Tamla is a well-known authority in her field and serves on a number of (public and advisory) boards. She has also won numerous awards, such as those from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the Kenan-Flagler Business School, the World 50 and Black Women on Boards, the NY Times front page feature, Fast Company, The Network Journal's 25 Influential Black Women in Business, and Savoy's 2020 Most Influential Black Executives in Corporate America.
