The script, picked up by Screen Gems, was written and inspired by a real-life relationship of Chester Tam (Netflix’s Take the 10), who will also direct the interracial love story.
As reported by the Hollywood Reporter, “The logline is under wraps but is said to explore how a drunken one-night stand leads to a secret relationship that eventually becomes public, surprising both friends and family of the couple given that neither is typically the other's type.”
Union, who has been developing the script with Tam for more than a year, will be producing alongside Holly Shakoor Fleischer, Trevor Engelson, and Tam at Underground.
Screen Gems executives Scott Strauss and Jolene Rodriguez will oversee the project for Steven Bersch, Screen Gems president.
Union has worked with Screen Gems on films including Think Like A Man and its sequel, Think Like a Man Too.
As of yet, there is no release date.
