Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) provide an experience unlike any other school or institute of higher education -- one where Blacks are the majority -- and they instill a sense of pride, confidence and the desire to give back to those who follow in your footsteps.
For Florida A&M University (FAMU) alum Khindra Decossard, she knew as an undergrad that she wanted to become a member of the Beta Alpha Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.
Harnessing the power that lies in sisterhood and honoring change-makers who have reaped positive gains through their philanthropic initiatives, Decossard and her sisters are continuing traditions and paying them forward.
“The Beauty of Sisterhood” is their unity, love, resilience, perseverance and strength. It’s a symbol of a powerful and unbreakable bond that promotes excellence and togetherness,” as mentioned on the website.
The 58-member N.I.A.R.A. line -- Nandi Inspired AKAtects Reclamining Ascendancy -- recently celebrated its 10th anniversary, and it marked the milestone by partnering with beauty brand Lovengood Lips to release a hot pink, vegan lipstick that supports FAMU.
The collaboration - coined “The Beauty of Sisterhood” - has allowed the sisters “to bring ten years of HERstory full-circle, celebrating who we’ve become as women and the service impact we aspire to make for our ten-year celebration,” according to the brand’s website.
“My line sister saw it as an opportunity to support someone who looks like us and who is us,” said Decossard. “Everything we do connects back to her website and social media pages to spread awareness about her business.”
The Lip shade, “N.I.A.R.A.” is a true hot pink, ultra-matte, vegan and cruelty-free, and can be purchased for $12 USD. All proceeds of the stunning lip shade will be donated back to FAMU to fuel campus beautification, scholarships and FAMU women.
